I don't believe I have been off topic, I just provided insight into how Comcast went about fixing the issue you brought up. However, I will answer your original question "Why is it a single row of letters that requires tedious scrolling back and forth???" Because that is the way someone originally designed it. Was it the best way, maybe not, but it is what it is.
How do I know they aren't working on it, because they already have. They have provided "Predictive Text (T9)" search and voice search as well. Even on the Search screen, they provide a beautiful graphic illustrating "How to Search Faster". All of this seems to work well for the majority of Comcast users, otherwise this forum would have lit up like a Christmas tree with people complaining about the tedious search.

Misteregas,
I am not providing examples because it deviates from my original topic.
I am not asking for or looking for work arounds. Once again it is off topic. My focus is on the search bar SPECIFICALLY. All I am trying to is suggest a possible improvement.
How do you know "they aren't working on it"? Care to provide specifics?
