Pairing x1 Voice remote

The other day I picked up (at an Xfinity store) a voice remote for my main HD box in the living room.  Paired it with Samsung TV and Samsung sound bar.  Remote works both perfectly (turns both on and off and controls sound in sound bar). While at the store, rep told me to bring in my secondary HD box from my bedroom setup and I could swap it for the current model and use a voice remote for that setup, too.  Did the swap.

Hooked up the new box and and paired with the TV - no problem.  The problem lies with the receiver which supples the audio.  It's a Sherwood receiver and I located the appropriate code, went through the pairing process and was able to control the sound level with the voice remote.  Here's the problem:  with the TV off and the receiver in Standby mode, I can press the "All Power" button and both the TV AND the receiver will turn on.  But, when I push the "All Power" button again, only the TV will turn off - the receiver stays on - it does not go into Standby mode.  I was on the phone with an Xfinity tech for over 1 hour with no luck in fixing the problem.  I waited a few hours, called back and spoke with a different tech who said he had the same problem and I was lucky that the living room remote turned both the TV and sound bar on and off.  I then tried ALL the codes for Sherman receivers.  The first one only turns the receiver 'on' not 'off', a couple didn't work at all, and the last only turned the receiver 'off' not 'on'.     Arghhhhh . . . . .

Is there something else I can try?

Thanks
