why upstairs signal strength seems to be weak?

$

It's been a month since we first had an installer come and put in X1.  After five visits from various technicians, the picture still doesn't look HD quality and the DVR recordings look horrible (closer to SD quality).

When the last tech came out, he said the downstairs DVR (we have 3 in the house) had a signal strength of 0.8 (pretty decent I thnk?).  Downstairs is where the cable line first comes in and there's a splitter to bring the cable upstairs to the other two bedrooms.  But the upstairs two DVR's have a signal strength of -11 on both.  All the boxes still freeze on a daily basis.  For the experts on this forum, what would cause such a big discrepancy in the DVR's?  Does having 3 DVR's in the house cause some of the issues....Comcast had told me it shouldn't be an issue?

Comcast is going to be pulling a new line for us next week......hoping that will help fix some of the problems.  But it's been a frustrating few weeks seeing the poor quality of the TV (and we have 3 4K TV's) and to top it off, we won't be able to see the Super Bowl with a good picture.

You have to account for signal loss over distance from downstairs to upstairs, and the type of splitter the first one is ( each port has a certain amount of loss). You don't mention if the upstairs has another splitter ( more loss) between the 2 DVRs. Also, you don't mention where your modem fits into the equation because it's even worse at -13. Where is the new line being pulled from/to? If it's being pulled from downstairs to upstairs I would have a home ran cable line tan to each dvr ( and modem) and replace the first splitter with a no loss amp (that would eliminate all splitters) and go from there.

Jnelson88 -- You've been unable to view premium channels such as Starz because your XiD was the Adapter version. Adapters are not capable of getting premium channels. You would need a standard Digital TV box to receive those channels. All of that information is found on our site with these articles:

Since getting my X1 box (which I love), I've added some on-demand movies to both my "Favorites" list and to a playlist.

On my X1 box itself, those show up under "Saved", along with "For you", "Recorded", "Scheduled", etc.

On the xfinity website, and on the xfinity TV app, however, neither favorites nor playlists are listed.

Is there any way to view what one has favorited or added to a playlist anywhere other than on the X1 box itself?

Those options were removed in a website update a few months and may return in the future

Hi,

I am hoping someone may be able to help here! I recently signed up for a triple play package with the self install kit. I inititally has some trouble with the X1 DVR box and had to call when setting up and after an hour it was finally resolved and working fine.

However when i went to hook up and install the companion box in my bedroom, one demand worked fine and the guide no issues however live tv is not working. I received an error XRE-10007 and told to unplug the X1 DVR for 10 seconds and plug it back in. About a day and a dozen attempts later it started working sort of...the live tv kept freezing and then rebooting the set top box. I maybe got all of 20 minutes of smooth live tv before I ended up back at square one with the error message. I know this has been brought up before on the forums but none of the fixes seemed to work for me. I ordered a self install kit for a reason and trying to avoid a tech having to come.

I have zero issues with the internet or X1 DVR box both have worked just fine no issue and it is only with the companion HD box. The line to the bedroom is only split once from the main line into the house up to the bedroom so it should be a fine signal. Any help is appreciated!

My X1 DVR is model AX013ANM

My companion HD box is PXD01ANI

You have multiple issues and should have a tech out, since you are in an apartment and probably don't have access to what you need to troubleshoot much. Your dvr and modem are way out of spec ( signal's too low) and if there's no Moca filter present it may be ( probably is) hampering the communication between the dvr and XiD

Hello,

I guess I ment is there a way to can manage what my DVR records online for my X1?

Shawn

at web page for desk/laptops https://tv.xfinity.com/ you can select "Saved" and in the drop down either recordings or scheduled. select one and you will have 'recording options' where you can make changes in your series recordings setting for each series.

If that is not what you mean, would you please reply with an example of what task you wish to accomplish?

Hi Andrew,

Yes, once the cable runs upstairs, it's split one more time to each of the bedrooms.  I believe they are just running a new line from the pole to the entry point of my home (downstairs).  They have not even brought up the idea of running cables directly to the upstairs bedroom.  Is that something Comcast can do for me?  That might solve a lot of the problems.  The modem for our house is in one of the upstairs bedroom.  We can decent internet speeds though....about 200 mps downstream and about 10 upstream.

Thanks for your reply.  It would be great if they can run cables directly into the bedrooms....guess they would need to run cables from the outside of the home...is that correct?

the scheduler no longer will let you record duplicates (already on your DVR). You can record it manually, just not as a series recording option.

And just like that....it's now working.    This past week the station was having alternate programming for the 4 am and 5:30 pm broadcasts.   Ending today.  However beginning Monday my DVR scedule is now showing recordings set for all the braodcasts on the desired channel.

What you describe is a terminator that takes a special tool that only a tech would have.

Do we really just use this mini alone? Jusy arrived. Says to make sure cables are tight on your player and mini player. I was using a bedroom receiver not the main box. error RDK-03036. I will keep trying as I don't want a tech right now... the room is undergoing a spring clean... But since Jan! Now how will my vcr (yep vcr) and surround hook up... there are no inputs in back. Do I use both boxes together? I know I have to return the original. Thanks for any help. Sorry if posted in a wrong area. Not hip to all to forum manners. ☺

Pace is the manufacturer of that model.

There's another model that Arris manufactures.

Re: Audio Out of Sync

Sounds like you don't have X1 boxes or X1 service.

X1 boxes do not have the "Advanced" tab in the audio settings like legacy boxes do. Are you sure you are posting in the right place?

DigitalMechanix wrote:

We just got the cable box upgraded to HD and had the out of sync audio problem.

Technician came out and said it's a problem with the TV.

We have a new Sony so I  figured probably not.

Went into the settings on the cable box after he left to see what options were buried in there. Audio was set to Advanced with options. I changed it to Stereo. Options disappeared. I figured problem solved since the audio was in sync on all channels and stayed there... for a couple of hours. Then it started to go out of sync again. After some more research I found Sony had a firmware update that seemed to resolve the issue. Unfortunately it looks to be only about a 90% solution to the problem because the audio STILL goes out of sync though much less often than before. I've gone as far as I can with troubleshooting. Changing settings helped some.. updating the TV's firmware... better, but still not right. I've read a lot of complaints from others with the same audio sync problems on all different kinds of setups and all I can say at this point is to try the known workarounds and hope they help because i don't see Comcast in any hurry to change they way they deliver and process HD. The old boxes worked fine. Never out of sync. I'm back to blaming the new cable box as the root of the problem. They should work without headaches on everybodys system regardless of how you have your audio output set up.

Let me add that up until last night all the out of sync errors have been audio ahead video lagging.  When I tried watching a show on bravo on demand last night... the audio was lagging behind the video. As a Comcast customer I found it annoying. As a computer tech I found it to be another interesting glitch.

So to all who think it's a codec problem you're absolutely right. The question now is where the codec should be.  I think it should be in the cable box so it outputs a "standard signal" that's easily played on any hd tv. The fact that some tvs work out of the box and others work better after flashing their firmware proves it's a software not hardware issue. So what to do if your setup doesn't work after trying settings and tv updating.. or doesn't even have the option to try?

Unfortunately I'm going to have to say buy a tv that works with comcast out of the box and use it's output to your cool speaker setup. I haven't taken the time yet to look deep into it  but Samsung and LG may work better than others.

It would be good to look up feedback from people who love the comcast hd and have no sync issues to get a feel for what the better hardware is.

Sorry MrScott1 but my original conclusion stands.

Has anyone experienced the error code XRE-03045 on certain stations.  I can get 3 or 4 channels but all others I get the error.  This is not on all of my TVs just one.  I've tried refreshing, rebooting & unplugging to restart...nothing works.

Your post is hard to understand.

The X1 "mini boxes" will not work without an X1 DVR (main box).

If you have an X1 DVR, RDK-03036 means the "Companion" box cannot talk to the X1 DVR which it needs to do. Something is preventing the boxes from "seeing" each other.

You can either learn to troubleshoot this yourself or have Comcast send a tech out.
