Re: Change in 'new episode ' indicator in the guide

Why are episodes being shown as NEW when in reality they are repeats?

This is not an issue of the color of the badge that is being discussed here . Its  a long standing program guide issue.  Comcast is not responsible for the 'labeling' of the  programs . Guide content  comes from a 3rd party and the  networks  are the ones who provide the  info. I have found that its the cable networks that show the 'new' badge often when its a rerun/ repeat....not the major networks.  In my opinion it may be that the  program is 'new' to  the cable network  that is airing it and is therefore is marked as such. Its very frustrating.

If you google this issue you will find many hits that will take you to discussions about this on Comcast forums.

It doesn’t matter the model(it was in the thread title), that error code is for weak Wi-Fi connection to that box. You may have to either reset both box and gateway to reestablish a connection, move the gateway closer, hardwire the box to the gateway or change to cable connected box. There’s no “nationwide” issue with these boxes, they’re like any wireless device if they’re not in proper range, they’ll have apronlems working properly. I’ve escalated up to a colleague to assist getting a tech out. What you may need is an xi6 instead, to take advantage of the 2.4 MHz Wi-Fi band to have better range

That link is to a description of how it 'should' work, not options when it doesn't. Have you any other suggestions?

Thank you for your response.  We have already tried resetting both gateway and refreshing Xi5 box multiple times.  We have replaced the HDMI cord.  I do believe we need a stronger box.  How can we go about getting a tech to actually bring the box.  We can't simply drive to an Xfinity store and swap it out ourselves anymore like we could in Atlanta.  We are completely at the mercy of a tech and now we have to try to reschedule having the tech come out.  The only store in Vero does NOT even carry this kind of box.  The store usually has a long long line.  They are building a new store but it probably won't open for several months.

Please advise us if you are able to reinstate our tech appointment for today.  I will private message you our address and account number.  Thank you again!

Oh and the tech who came out on 2/27/19 tested our gatweay signal and said they were exceptional actually so it's hard to believe it is a signal problem but whatever.

Update: technician arrived with my third new Cable box. Installed new X1 box with new cables. I think the problem was in the connecting cable, but could have been the old box as well. Thankfully, with this brand new box, everything is working beautifully.

Oh - I think we are 5.0 ghz instead of just 2.4 ghz.  Is that the issue maybe? The boxes are not made for 5.0 ghz frequency?  I know our printer and scanner have great issues connecting with 5.0 and we have to revert it back to 2.4 ghz frequency.

ESPN 3 on X1- please add ESPN+ content

Late last summer, X1 started providing access to the sporting events that are carried via ESPN3 streaming. (free streaming)

Since that time, many events that used to be on ESPN 3 have been shifted over to the pay service ESPN+ ($4.99/month FYI), and it appears that it is the business model moving forward with every contract they obtain.

It would be nice if X1 got ahead of the curve on this one and made THOSE events available to our X1 boxes in the same way that the ESPN 3 content is. Obviously, we would need to subscribe to the service for the ESPN+ content, (just as we do for Netflix/Amazon Prime...etc)

Does anyone here have any information if this is in the works, or at least take down this suggestion and run it along the path to management as an idea/upgrade

Thank you

Why not just get a Roku and not wait for some megacorp to tell you what services you can use.

What are the model numbers of all the X1 boxes in your house.?

You may have an incorrect combination of boxes or it may have something to do with how things are wired.

Are these two images taken from the same tv? I only ask since you are discussing two different devices and I know my Roku is hooked up to a tv that does not have a Comcast box connected to it.

Also, I usually have to modify my color settings after installing a new device directly on the tvs menu using my original tv remote (non-Comcast remote). Have you tried that?

I would try swapping the HDMI cables. Is there an audio/video receiver involved?

Here is my guess. You are connecting the Roku and Xi6 directly into the TV on different inputs. The problem with that is most TVs can remember and save different picture settings for each input. I think what you are seeing is the difference in the color settings on the two inputs. If you are going to compare picture quality on two different inputs the picture settings must be identical.

You may want to take a look at this conversation https://forums.xfinity.com/t5/Channels-and-Programming/Game-of-Thrones-Picture-Quality-Disaster/td-p/3213770

I would start by swapping your HDMI cables and taking a really close look at your TVs picture settings. I think 80 to 90% of the difference you are seeing is your TVs picture settings.

Yeah, these are hooked up to the same TV!

I really don't want to have one setting for the Xfinity box and have to switch to another to watch anything on Roku.

I have my main X1 box on a different TV and that color matches the Roku output. So it's definitely the Xi6 box that's the issue.

The thing is, my old XiD box was hooked up with the exact same cables into the exact same inputs and I didn't have this color issue. And my current X1 main box (hooked to a different TV) doesn't have this issue. Literally the only difference was me switching out the XiD to the Xi6.

I had the exact same behavior with an Xi6 4K wireless box.  I was trying the box out as an experiment to see how well it functioned (I recieved it as a self-install kit).  I set the box within a few feet of the XB6 gateway.  For a few days I could get live TV ONLY after I played something recorded or on-demand. Live TV would never play directly from the guide after a re-boot.  This behavior was annoying but predictable and tolerable.  However, after a few day live TV stopped working all together and recordings and on-demand also became erratic.  Essentially the box became unsable.  After a week of trying to get it to work I returned it.  Note, I tried the Xi6 with both a wifi and a hardwired connection and there was no difference.  Also note, I have five other X1 co-ax wired boxes and they all work flawlessly.  From my experience the Xi6 is not ready for general use.  If you want a 4K box get the DVR.

Not quite. The Xi6 offers 4K resolution and that can change everything. Still STRONGLY suggest that you follow my suggestions.
