It is fairly well known and often discussed in this forum that Auto Extend is hit and miss. Too bad it is not reliable. It could help to differentiate X1 from the competition.
However, in my opinion a big part of the problem is Comcast uses a 3rd party company for guide data and information. I suspect that Auto Extend must be tied to guide data in some form.
Recently it was announced that Comcast is having legal issues with the very same company that supplies them with guide data.
I predict that Auto Extend will remain unreliable and anything that you want to record that is important to you should probably be manually extended (which is what I have always done).
