Sound Keeps Going In and Out

For the past few days, the sound keeps going in and out.  First it's every other word, then several words then no words at all.  Sometimes I get sound back when I turn my TV off and on again but the problem still starts up a bit later.  How can I tell whether it's a Comcast or TV problem?  Would prefer not to pay a $40 service charge to be told I need a new TV.

Hi and

Freezing and tiling issues are normally caused by poor signal levels. I'd like to review your accounts to see if I can help isolate the cause of your issues. Can you please verify your first and last name, and the phone number or account number associated with your services in a private message?

To send a private message click on my name "ComcastChe", then click private message me.

Hi TS71, apologies for your experiences with your service. I would like to review this further on my side and go over signals, first I would need to look up your account.  Please send me a private message with your account information (your name, address and account number).

Thank you

Thank you, ComcastJoeTru. I just shut off the power save mode this evening - I had been waiting for the next reboot, as my X1 box had been behaving the last couple of nights. So I will give it another shot here, with the powersave off and then PM you to see about getting another tech perhaps with a new box. I had thought that the first tech last week fixed all of the signal issues. He did say my signal strength was good, but he "wished it could be better". I don't know what might cause fluctuations in signals. That seems harder to address, and wouldn't be solved with a new box.

I appreciate your time in responding. It appears you've been a big help to many on this forum Smiley Happy

For the four months, my TV signal picture will become frozen on my TV.  After a few minutes, the Xi set top box will shut off and reboot and eventually return the moving picture to the TV.  I have tried different TV's and check out all the connection to ensure they are tight.  The set top was changed out but the problem has continued.  My internet signal off the same cable works just fine during the freeze.  Any thoughts as to why and how it might be corrected?

The first read of your issue would suggest signal deficiencies on the X1 network ( rebooting and freezing of picture ).  Your internet could still work even though your X1 will not.  I suggest that a TECH onsite can evaluate and fix whatever signal errors that are causing this issue.  Call into Comcast at 1-800-266-2278 or 1-800-934-6489 and request a TECH visit.

Currently it is possible to extend the stop time of a recording.  The max is 30 minutes.   This seems like it should be enough but we know that on Sports heavy weekends the night shows are often backed up a bit.  This past weekend, the shows were backed up about 40 min so those we recorded were useless and we needed to watch on-demand (with FF features disabled).  I've done stint with Directv and while I don't like them or their service, one thing they had in their DVR was 60 min for extended time.

May I request adding in additional longer times for stop time extension?   Seems an easy change in existing logic and the only impact should be the end user properly managing their space usage.

CBS Sunday nights when football goes over and right now its NCAA basketball going waaaay over I  have to record 2 or three shows that come on after the show I have already set to record in order to get it all. Royal pain. We do this rather than use On Demand because we can't FF On Demand on network tv.

A few days ago I changed the power setting on my cable box from 2 hours to 1 hour.  The next morning my cable box went through 3 reboots in a short amount of time, maybe 20 minutes.  I have since set it back to 2 hours and haven't had a reboot.  While the testing time has not been long, it appears that there might be a connection between short power off times and frequent reboots.

I have an Onkyo a/v receiver.  I connected my TV with HDMI to the receiver.  I also hooked up my X1 DVR to the receiver with HDMI.

I am able to get 5.1 from my speakers with this setup.  Do you have the equipment to try the same thing?

This is the same problem that I have.  It has just started doing this.

I have two of these, and they always shut off.  "until recently"

Went to the local office, relayed the issue to them.

They gave us a replacement, and now this new one does not shut off!

I don't like having that bright light on while I sleep.

Everything I have read so far, says it is always suppose to stay on.

But, why!!!, did it start now???

If you search this forum, some have chosen to put elecrical tape over the light.

You can call 1800comcast and ask them to check your X1 system.  If that doesn't resolve your issue, you can schedule a tech visit.

I have an XG2 that does the same thing.  In Settings, Comcast Labs, what is your HDMI Link setting?

When I schedule a recording, I usually add 5 minutes; sometimes I have to add 30 minutes if there is a sports event previously.  Comcast uses a third party for their schedules and they don't allow for overruns.

I spent an hour yesterday on the phone with tech support.  That was a waste of time.  They had a procedure they had to follow, and wasn’t going to get away from the structured plan.

tape is not an alternative,  it shut off before, and not now

totally ridiculous.

I want a real fix.
