Re: Adding a Wireless Box

Lisa,

I feel your pain. I just upgraded from tv/internet to include voice.  The technician mentioned I could now use a wireless box, which would allow me to move it to different rooms, as well as pair with Bluetooth headphones.  He said I could go to my local store and swap boxes.

So I head to my local store to swap boxes and am rudely told they don’t have those boxes.  I told her the technician said I could come down and swap, to which she responded they don’t know what they are talking about.  I ask if she can order the box for me and she says she cannot, I will need to call myself.  Seems odd that she doesn’t have the same capability as the call center, but whatever.  She then adds that they will probably charge me $15 to ship to me.  A bit annoying that I would need to pay for an item they choose not to stock, but not the end of the world.

When I get home, I log in to a chat session with a rep and he eventually tells me the xi5 is available in my area.  I ask him to ship me two, since I figure I can use one for portability and the other for bt connection in my bedroom, and if I am paying $15 to ship one, might as well get a second for a little bit extra in shipping.  That’s when he advises that there will be a $60 fee.  I ask why so much to ship two small boxes and he tells me it must be professionally installed.  Huh?  Plug it into an outlet and connect to WiFi requires an expert? Yep, apparently so.

i ask if he can waive the setup fee as I have been a Comcast customer for 30 years and he says nope, that’s what it costs.  Sadly, that ended out chat session...

Has anyone on this thread had the problem solved by a tech visit? Honest question.

Nope, had 7 tech's come out, all lines in my house and at the pole replaced. 4 boxes replaced, switched tv's as well. Have had my account credited over $200 and it wasn't resolved. Eveeyone said I had perfect signal reception. I called and canceled TV service and switched back to DirecTV. Paying a lot less now with the same channels and it hasn't frozen once. Much happier now.

help folks.  Do I need a new cable box?  The cable signal goes to black screen, back on, black screen, back on without affecting the lights on the cable box.  I also frequently have the 2-23 channels get "broken up" in little digital boxes.  Most times, the upper channels, like NFL on 275 are okay.  Frustrating to say the least!

Have had this problem for three weeks. Tech comes out mumbling the whole time pants sagging and has to be 12 and know absolutely nothing. Changes the coax cable to stop freezing issue on bedroom boxes. Then next thing you know he says it didn’t work and he will have to send another tech out with an amplifier. After telling him one had been installed he said it may be bad and that he has to send another tech out Sunday. Sunday came no tech so I had to switch the appt cause he set it for a day I work and still waiting. Well after he left the boxes stop working all together. They won’t connect to the dvr box. The guy also changed my modem which I had no problem with. X1 is not working in either bedroom and this guy did nothing. Don’t understand why the boxes don’t have their own tuners? Can anyone help?

I have escalated your issue to the Comcast Team available to these forums. Check back often for a reply in this thread from a Comcast Official Employee.

Re: X1 DVR recording episodes not marked repeat or new

That is not really an answer...Obviously, that is the BAD customer experience received.  The point is that it doesn't HAVE to be the customer experience if Comcast cared at all to invest a tiny bit of time in adjusting they schedule building criteria.  However, it has been painstakingly pointed out time and again that Comcast/Xfinity cares not for the customer.

I suffer the same terrible customer experience of unwanted recordings showing up in my recording schedule.  Every ten days or so I have to DELETE 50 or more recordings that have a program's generic description and therefore do not state repeat or new implicitly.  While Comcast may have no control over the description provided, my suspicion is they do have control over the search criteria to build the recording schedule.  My observation is that the search criteria looks for the "repeat" indicator, and absent that, adds the show to the recording technology.  This is simple technology, folks.  If the search criteria instead looked implicitly for the "new" indicator, it would provide a much more satisfying customer experience.  I have seen some network shows initially provide a generic description, but within a week of airtime, they convert to "new".  These shows would get added to the schedule appropriately.  To me, this is just a matter of Comcast not considering the customer experience aspect of the situation and preferring to point the finger at something outside their control, instead of putting their best minds at solving an unacceptable customer experience situation by changing things within their control.

series not marked 'new' will aways be recorded if the series exists on that channel.

How do i know which programs are set to record on which DVR?

Yesterday we had 6 programs recording at one time and a got a message when i tried to watch a 7th show that was not recording.

I thought we could record 12 programs at one time?  How can I prevent this from happening?

Thank you.

You also have 2 Xids, each take a tuner ( ability to record) from the dvr and each DVR uses a tuner for live TV, it’s also possible your recordings were overlapping. To get the most of recording ability swap one of the XiDs for an XG2.

what is the difference with the XG2?

how will i know which program is recording on which DVR?  do I have to set the recording up on the

DVR that I want it to record on?

XG2 has tuners to give like a DVR

If you have series scheduled to record, it records on the dvr with the most space.
If you physically press record at a DVR, that’s the one it goes to

XG2 has tuners to give like a DVR

can you explain that a little more I didn't understand it.

right now i have 2 different DVRs.  one is the big one with the time on the front and one is a small one

with just a white light.

i also have two regular digital non dvr boxes.

The XG2 has 4 tuners, one for live TV and 3 to feed up to 3 XiDs. Currently, 2 of your DVR’s tuners are used for the 2 XiDs that you have. Swapping an XG2 for one of your XIDs will totally free up the DVR (minus tuners for live TV)

It’s a box for box swap, you can go to your local service center and swap it anytime

one last question and i'll leave you alone.  ok two questions.

with two x1 boxes that i have and with 6 programs recording shouldn't i at least have had one tuner left

to watch live TV?

what happens when you press record when watching live TV on a regular digital box?  where does that get recorded to?

You probably should have but after the fact you can’t tell what was happening.

It really doesn’t matter where it gets saved to unless you were swapping a DVR. But I believe it would be whichever DVR it’s taking its tuner from

Hello jego28jg. I can assist with troubleshooting your X1 boxes that are not working, and schedule another technician visit if needed. Please send me a private message and include your full name and account primary phone number so I can access your equipment.
